When Vertere unveiled the Calon Dual Mono Precision Phono Preamplifier at Motor World during High End Munich 2024, it didn’t just raise the bar it reshaped expectations of what a phono stage could be. From that moment, one question lingered: how could those breakthroughs elevate the preamplifier that began Vertere’s journey? The answer is the Vertere Phono-1 LX MM/MC phono stage.

Nine years after its debut — and following the major MkII upgrade in 2019 and the ‘L’ refinement in 2022 Phono‑1 enters its most transformative chapter yet. The Phono-1 LX delivers darker, quieter backgrounds, greater dynamic range, and spatial imaging with pinpoint clarity. Vocals gain a lifelike texture that feels uncannily present in the room. And while the sound has evolved, so too has the experience: every improvement is matched by a more tactile, premium feel and a visual presence worthy of the engineering inside.

New Upgraded PCB
The Vertere Phono-1 LX MM/MC phono stage’s upgraded PCB uses a superior gold‑plated finish, ensuring consistent, high‑quality soldering across every connection. Built for long‑term reliability, it allows each circuit to perform at its absolute best every time.

Upgraded Internal DC Power Supply
Enhanced components in the internal DC power supply deliver cleaner, more stable DC power throughout the unit. With lower noise and a steadier feed to each circuit, the Phono-1 LX gains a direct lift in overall performance.

New 2‑Way Phono Amplifier Earthing Switch
The new 2‑way earthing switch offers smoother operation and a longer lifespan. A simple toggle between Earth Lift and Earth Connection lets you tailor grounding to your system with ease.

Improved AC Input
A specialised inductor on the AC input blocks high‑frequency interference before it reaches the circuit, while a second inductor after the transformer adds another layer of protection. Together, they keep the DC power supply feed clean and free from unwanted RF noise.

Vertere Blue‑Green Power Indicator LED
The new blue‑green LED brings the Vertere Phono-1 LX MM/MC phono stage visually in line with the DG-X, Tempo, Imperium and Calon creating a unified, striking aesthetic across the Vertere range.

New Chassis & Cover
A fine‑textured metallic silver finish gives the new cover a refined, tactile feel. Removing the top four fixing screws creates a cleaner, uninterrupted look, echoing the design language of the Calon and reinforcing the Phono-1 LX’s place in a family of products built without compromise.

High Gain Option
As with the outgoing Phono‑1L MkII, a high‑gain version of the new Phono-1 LX is available for cartridges with a 0.2mV output, adding 6.4dB of gain. This brings the Vertere Phono-1 LX MM/MC phono stage’s output capability to between 46.4dB and 69.2dB ideal for cartridges such as many Rega MC models.
