Now that the Tellurium Q Ultra Silver II streaming cable has reached its final form, the Tellurium Q research and development team have taken a moment to look back at a long‑running internal project affectionately known as Plato’s Ghost. Over the years, the team have wandered down more than a few blind alleys in pursuit of better performance. Those experiments were set aside — “buried,” you might say though each one taught them something valuable, so “failed” never feels like the right word.
Some of the materials and ideas used in this new cable were actually “resurrected” from one of those abandoned paths explored four or five years ago. Revisiting them with fresh eyes revealed possibilities they hadn’t considered at the time. In that sense, the Tellurium Q Ultra Silver II streaming cable carries with it the “ghost” of a project the R&D team once thought had reached a dead end.
The name also speaks to something more philosophical: the very human urge to chase perfection, an idea central to Plato’s thinking. Plato’s ghost reflects that persistent pull toward an ideal — even when the ideal itself may be out of reach. And really, isn’t that the heart of audio reproduction? The ongoing pursuit of something ever closer to the truth of the music.
