Simon recently spent some time getting acquainted with a new pair of loudspeakers from Russell K. Read on for his experience of the Red 120Se’s…
I consider myself one of the fortunate few in life, who cannot wait for morning to arrive to enjoy another day at the office. Okay, not every day is rosy – but you get the point. The past two days have been especially good, as a result of the beginning of a newly formed love affair. on this occasion, the loss of appetite is the result of time spent in the company of a rather delightful pair of speakers, namely the Russell K Red 120Se’s.
The Red 120Se’s were thoughtfully loaned to us by the much-respected Hi-Fi reviewer Chris Frankland, as he is an admirer of this model and suspected I’d rather like them too.
Two days in and I haven’t rushed to swap various bits and pieces in the attempt to find audio nirvana, as that mission has already been accomplished. The Red 120Se’s have been happily bobbing along in partnership with a Rega Aethos Integrated Amplifier and Rega Planar 10 turntable. A Goldring Ethos MC Cartridge was fitted to the turntable and a Gold Note PH-10 Phono Stage completes the system. The attention to detail applied to the design of the floor spikes is a lovely touch, making it easier to level the speaker it situ. The only minor fettling was with speaker cable, and I quickly settled with the Tellurium Q Ultra Black II.
Simply put, there is nothing to dislike with this system and the compact form factor of the Russell K Red 120Se speakers makes them unlikely to cause offence in any household. The afternoon of Thursday 14h September involved a fair amount of focus on enjoying some freshly delivered ‘Living Stereo’ vinyl records, including Alexander Gibson’s Witches’ Brew and Gounod Faust’s Ballet Music. Isaac Hayes’ Shaft soundtrack also made an appearance upon the Planar 10, donning a set of Solidair Audio Dub Star 50 Isolation Feet. Simply magnificent. What’s there not to absolutely love about life?!
