Built for endurance, the design uses premium parts: cast zinc alloy hardware with PVD coating, a spring steel headband, PC-ABS ear cups, velour pads, and a soft PU leather band. With strong ergonomics, the 105 AER is highly resilient and Meze’s lightest open-back model. It aims for a listening experience so comfortable and engaging that you may forget it is there.

The 50 mm dynamic driver is reliable and flexible. To keep the 105 AER accessible, the membrane and frame were adjusted slightly. Meze used this change to create a new voicing that suits all genres. The dome, made from carbon fibre-reinforced cellulose composite, delivers high frequencies with clarity and definition.

More durable and lighter than standard materials, this composite reduces resonances that might cause distortion. The torus around the dome uses PEEK, a semicrystalline polymer with strong mechanical traits. PEEK’s stiffness and strength keep the membrane stable under stress, while its lightness allows rapid response to audio signals. This improves detail, bringing every note to life. Additionally, PEEK offers strong internal damping that limits unwanted resonances and vibrations. Stiffness and durability improve through grooves on the torus, placed precisely at a 45.5° angle. A copper-zinc alloy stabiliser around the membrane boosts vibration absorption to reduce distortion further.

Tuned by a skilled acoustic engineer at Meze, the 105 AER provides an exceptionally lush audio presentation. The sound is rich and refined, with a warm, full-bodied quality that surrounds you. Velour cushions wrap the ears comfortably, forming an optimal seal for natural sound. Because velour is softer and more breathable than leather, it reduces sweat and overheating during long listening sessions. The self-adjusting headband distributes weight evenly to apply consistent pressure across any head shape or size.
