How do Active Speakers Work?
May 15, 2024Those of you that know the Home Media team well will know that we’re a light-hearted bunch. However, with Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 close on the horizon, running from Monday 13th–Sunday 19th May 2024, on this occasion we’re going to get a little more serious for just a moment…
Few people would disagree that life has become rather less enjoyable and downright difficult for many during the past few years. This is largely due to significant global affairs and the increased cost of living – of which nobody needs a reminder. Coping with such concerns, let alone our own unique life challenges, it’s no wonder that people are feeling the weight of the world upon their shoulders more than ever at this moment in time.
Having spoken at length with a few of our much-cherished friends and customers about their coping mechanisms during difficult times, more than a few of them commented that listening to music often helps to bring a sense of calm, relaxation and happiness to what can sometimes be an otherwise turbulent life. There is a vast amount of music artists producing music to complement an ever-changing mood, as a result of our unique experiences within our daily lives. And with access to a comprehensive array of albums available at our fingertips via streaming services, or by reaching to our favourite titles from our own cherished music collections, access to music has never been easier.
It is perhaps apt then that the theme for Mental Health Awareness Week 2024, from the Mental Health Foundation, is “Movement: moving more for our mental health”. It’s well known that moving your body is a great way to nourish your mental health – and for many, the right music is essential for gaining maximum enjoyment and benefit from their exercise sessions.
Whether you’re hitting the weights in the gym, pounding the pavement, taking time to breathe through a meditative yoga flow, turning the volume up for the kitchen disco to dance like no one’s watching – or even just toe tapping, hand clapping or head bopping from the safety of your armchair – the magic combination of movement and music is one that really can be wonderful for wellness.
So, if you’re feeling a bit below par, finding it hard to find a release valve to help you along the way, then try taking some time out from the hamster wheel of life and indulge yourself by listening to the music that elevates your mood and bring you a form of escape. And if you can move your body while you do so – so much the better.
Come on, break out some of those old dance moves… you’ll thank us for it!
