The new Rega Planar 3 turntable is a completely new product for 2016. Developed alongside the new Planar 2, the Rega Planar 3 is a complete departure from the previous RP3 model, with a number of key new features.
The new Rega RB330 tonearm features new bias assembly, with a redesigned stiffer vertical bearing housing and integrated arm clip. The spring housing has also been improved with easy to read numbers. A new low capacitance RCA cable with Neutrik plugs is also included on the Planar 3. A new 100g mild steel balance weight is fitted to the Rega RB330, together with improved low friction horizontal and vertical bearings.
The Planar 3 now features a high gloss acrylic laminated plinth, with stiffer and vastly improved appearance and an ergonomically positioned power switch. The Planar 3 will initially be available in two plinth finishes at launch: gloss black & gloss white
Other key areas of improvement include a re-design of the brass main central bearing, with an improved fit and construction which reduces stress on the bearing itself. The sub platter has been re-designed to improve accuracy and stiffness. The 12mm thick glass platter features a new float glass ‘Optiwhite’ polished rim and provides stunning looks. Re-designed feet improve stability and reduce vibration transfer.
The motor cover tray has integrated cooling and features a re-designed PCB (Printed Circuit Board) with an improved assembly method. Improvements have been made to the Top Brace with a new phenolic aluminium skin, whilst the Bottom Brace has improved rigidity with an increase in thickness to 3mm.
The new Planar 3 features an optional lid, or plinth protector to keep the plinth looking at its best. The new turntable raises the performance bar against the outgoing RP3.
