Music and Mental Health

Currently being in a global pandemic, it’s important to fill our lives with what is beneficial for our mental health when we can – one of those things, you won’t be surprised to hear, is music.

Studies on Music and Mental Health

There have been many studies conducted, most of which support the idea. In 2006, 60 adults who suffered from chronic pain took part in a study in which they found that listening to music provided positive effects on their bodies and mind, including reducing pain and even some symptoms of depression and disability. Read more on this study here.

Not only that, but it has been found that music-assisted relaxation is a great tool for those who suffer from sleep disorders, improving the quality of sleep and therefore helping them to feel well-rested, which in turn can help improve their overall mental health. Click here to read more.

Music Therapy for Mental Health

Dopamine – one of the wonderful happy chemicals in the brain – can increase by up to 9% when listening to music. The great benefits of music on mental wellbeing have not gone unnoticed – music therapy is a treatment commonly used to aid anyone with mental illness, those with conditions such as Autism Spectrum Disorder to aid with emotional and communication skills, and older people, especially those who suffer with dementia. Music for Productivity and Happiness

It’s great to listen to music when you feel down at work, school or home when you can. Many feel happier and can even be more productive when listening to music whilst working, whether that’s out loud or individually – how about considering the introduction of a great sound system into your home or workplace to create a more relaxed, happier atmosphere? We’d be happy to provide you with our home demo service, so you can trial your desired audio equipment before purchasing and be sure that it will bring these benefits to your environment.

If it’s not possible to listen to music out loud, why not invest in a great new pair of headphones to enjoy the sounds of your favourite artists without the fear of disturbing those around you? We highly recommend the Focal Stellia Over-Ear Headphones, which deliver both acoustic excellence and the ultimate in comfort. You’ll find a fine range of portable audio players to browse through on our website, too!

So, if you find yourself feeling low or struggling at all during this time, take a moment to lose yourself in lyrics and rhythms that bring you peace and happiness. If you think your sound system requires an upgrade, you’re not sure on the right listening product for you – or even just fancy a chat about music – please give us a call on 01622 676703.
